I am the proud owner of a G1 Android OS google phone. When my phone arrived last week it was loaded with a rather old version of the OS. After reading some articles on the net I found out that there are two ways of updating your phone. The first and easiest one is to wait until google pushes the new software to your phone over the air. The second one is to copy an image file to the memory card of your phone and then boot the phone with some keys pressed which gives you an upgrade dialog. The last method may be dangerous if you don’t have root access to your phone. A wrong image can easily brick your phone. I was planning to try out the manual method one of this days but today my phone asked to upgrade itself. Hehe ! So now I have the google maps V3 with latitude for example.
